I recently got the chance to check out the new Animal DVD, Cuts... I'll keep this reasonably brief because to be honest when it was on, I didn't really pay much attention to what was happening until Edwin's section came on. I caught a few good things here and there when I happened to really watch and I don't know if that goes to say anything for the DVD? I guess I just wasn't interested in what was happening all too much until the last 3/4's of it. The music choices weren't all too good and all the low to the ground riding got kind of old after a while. I love watching street videos but it felt like whenever I happened to pay attention, it was just mind numbing jibbing and nibbling.
So when the Edwin section came on, I perked up a bit because I knew he had to of done some good moves for this. The music picked up from there on out and I was stoked on every section after, even Steven Hamilton. Sure, the other people watching the DVD were tossing everyone and everything up, especially Steven Hamilton but I feel that it made for a better viewing experience. Nigel's part was really damn good, smooth and technical as ever, Garret Hoogerhyde is still a beast and his section just kept going and going, chock full of bangers!!
As old as Butcher is, he still seems to be progressing with new trickery but good god he's still as sloppy as ever. Butcher really knows how to butcher up his own trickery but I guess that's how he's always been?
I know this DVD was a long time coming but it just didn't really hit me with the Animal style that the old videos hit so well with, the music was what killed me most of the time it seems. 6 long years coming and it just didn't deliver like I expected but I know the real true fans of Animal are probably pretty stoked on it. So I don't know what to make of this DVD, I think I just need to watch it again but I doubt I'll ever get around to borrowing it again. So I'll just give it a deece.
I took note on a couple more brief things below....
-Mark Gralla and Jeff Kocsis are still the same person to me. Duplicates of each other?
-Mike Brennan did some good disaster to overs on some stuff.
-Tom White still shreds when he wants to actually ride his bike.
-Lino Gonzalez still looks like Steve Kerr's EX girlfriend...
-Brian Wizmerski looks like he's still stuck in that rocker/coke trend.
-Ralph Sinisi had a pretty deece manual to fakie-wall in his section.
-I'm still not running any Animal parts on my bike.
....I thought the DVD was sick and definitely worth the money and time awaited for it's release. PROPS TO ANIMAL!
